Technology firm Habitat Energy has secured a contract from the asset management arm of Swiss bank UBS Group AG (SWX:UBSG) to optimise a portfolio of 730 MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Texas.

Habitat will apply advanced AI-powered algorithmic forecasting and trading to advance the performance of the sites under a deal with UBS Asset Management’s Real Estate & Private Markets business, according to a statement published Thursday.

The contract encompasses four BESS projects expected to be commissioned from August to December 2024. The sites will serve the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid.

With the latest agreement, Habitat Energy now has 1 GW of ERCOT battery storage contracted and an overall portfolio of assets under contract of more than 2 GW.

Meanwhile, US energy transition-focused investment firm Captona announced it had joined the UBS unit as a partner in a 728-MW/1.06-GWh BESS portfolio in Texas.
