El Salvador’s Agro-Alliances Cultivate Sustainable Future.

El Salvador, a nation with a profound agricultural heritage, has recently entered into strategic partnerships aimed at bolstering its agricultural capabilities. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) has inked two significant agreements, signaling a commitment to agricultural advancement within the country.

One of these collaborations, known as the Merian Project, was formalized through a cooperative agreement between MAG and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance the capacities of the National Center for Agricultural and Forestry Technology (Centa) and the National School of Agriculture (ENA). With a financial backing of $5.6 million from the European Union, this project aims to elevate agricultural education and technical assistance across the country.

Minister of Agriculture, Óscar Guardado, emphasized the project’s goals, stating, «We will enhance the technical assistance coverage of Centa and promote digital education for extension workers, Centa researchers, ENA students, and producers.»

In addition to the Merian Project, El Salvador has also entered into the agreement titled «Innovation for the Reduction of Agro-environmental Risks in Countries of the Central American Dry Corridor.» Supported by the Government of Brazil, this initiative aims to bolster technological capacity and provide informational tools to facilitate agricultural endeavors.

This collaborative effort, to be executed by the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture through Centa, underscores the commitment of both nations to agricultural sustainability and resilience.

Brazilian Ambassador to El Salvador, Luiz Eduardo de Aguiar, emphasized the significance of the project for national agriculture and reaffirmed his government’s dedication to technical collaboration for the betterment of the population.

These alliances underscore El Salvador’s proactive approach to address agricultural challenges and harness innovation for sustainable agricultural development, promising a brighter future for the nation’s agricultural sector.
