Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar slammed KKR seamer Vaibhav Arora for his brainfade decision to go for a review against Delhi Capitals tailender Kuldeep Yadav.

The incident occured last night at the Eden Gardens stadium during Kolkata Knight Riders' reverse fixture against the Delhi Capitals. KKR bamboozled the visitors in an one-sided affair by 7-wickets in front of home supporters to go 2 points clear off 3rd and 4th placed Chennai and Hyderabad.

Terrific night out for KKR bowlers

After winning the toss, Rishabh Pant went to bat first and it did not turned out to be the wisest of decisions. The Delhi Capitals struggled right from the start as they were down by 4 wickets within the powerplay overs itself. It was Vaibhav Arora, who had earned the first breakthrough of Prithvi Shaw for a score of 13 off 7 with a caught behind to wicket-keeper Phil Salt.

Then Mitchell Starc claimed the wicket of fellow countryman, the dangerous Jake Fraser-McGurk for just 12 off 7. Vaibhav Arora was on target again as he chopped off the stumps of DC's West Indian power hitter Shai Hope cheaply for 6 off 3.  Harshit Rana then got rid of number 3 batter Abhishek Porel for a score of 18 off 15.

Knight Riders' spinners - Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine then ruled over DC in the middle-overs. Chakravarthy claimed 3 important wickets of DC skipper Rishabh Pant (27 off 20), South Africa's Tristan Stubbs (4 off 7) and Impact player Kumar Kushagra (1 off 3).

Then Sunil Narine removed set batter Axar Patel before Harshit Rana removed Rasikh Salem for 8 off 10 to restrict DC for a total of 157 in 20 overs.

What exactly intrigued Sunil Gavaskar to slam Vaibhav Arora?

But the incident that triggered Sunil Gavaskar to slam Vaibhav Arora took place during the final ball of the 18th over. Vaibhav had bowled an unplayable delivery to Kuldeep Yadav who went across the line to play his shot but ended up being struck on his pads.

From the first impression, it had looked like the ball would be missing the leg-stump on it's way but Vaibhav Arora assumed something else. He quickly rushed to skipper Shreyas Iyer and asked him to go for the Decision Review System (DRS) straight away.

Then the ball tracking device proved that Vaibhav Arora was wrong about his assumption as the ball went past the leg-stump without hitting. It intrigued Sunil Gavaskar to slam him for not thinking about his team and selfishly asking Shreyas to take the review. The 74-year-old was on air in the commentary box when he made those remarks.

"Shocking review. Absolute shocker. What a waste of a review. Should have thought about this team. Look that there are 11 balls left. Kuldeep Yadav is playing well. It's a 29-run partnership." - Gavaskar said via Star Sports.

KKR to face MI up next

Meanwhile after completing the double over Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 season, KKR will take on Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians up next. The Knight Riders will have the chance to go one step closer towards play-off qualifications as a win would take them to 14 points from 10 matches.
