    Cleantech startup Proklean Technologies raises $4 million in funding

    Proklean Technologies has raised $4 million in funding from Raintree Family Office which invests in startups promoting innovation in climate solutions, sustainability and responsible consumption.

    In the past, the Chennai-based company raised an angel funding of Rs 3.5 crore in 2012. Three years later, it raised another funding of Rs 5 crore from investors including Infuse Ventures, just before the 2015 floods. The company had to stop business after the devastating floods and put operations on hold for about six months, Kuila told ET.

    In FY23, the company turned EBITDA-level profitable with Rs 40 crore in revenue. Kuila told ET that the company will be expanding its research and development efforts and its capacity with the new funding. “We are going to invest money in going abroad. We started Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at the end of last year. We're looking at Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Gulf for paper,” he added.


    The company has developed proprietary technologies using renewable input materials to make products that provide solutions to problems such as pollution caused by multiple industries and depletion of renewable resources. It operates on probiotic microorganisms technology that uses metabolites, which can mimic certain properties of surfactants and therefore avoid the need for chemical-based surfactants.

    Three years ago, the company began using products required for processing in the paper industry. About a year and half ago, it also launched consumer products including household cleaning products. It sells these products in online marketplaces and offline only in Chennai.
