Proklean Technologies was founded in 2012 and started off using microorganisms for supply in wastewater treatment plants. The cofounding team includes Sivaram Pillai and Bala Chandrashekar, later joined by Vishwadeep Kuila.

In FY23, the company turned EBITDA-level profitable with Rs 40 crore in revenue. Kuila told ET that the company will be expanding its research and development efforts and its capacity with the new funding. “We are going to invest money in going abroad. We started Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at the end of last year. We're looking at Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Gulf for paper,” he added.
The company has developed proprietary technologies using renewable input materials to make products that provide solutions to problems such as pollution caused by multiple industries and depletion of renewable resources. It operates on probiotic microorganisms technology that uses metabolites, which can mimic certain properties of surfactants and therefore avoid the need for chemical-based surfactants.
