GPS Leads LPD To Stolen Truck And Driver

By Tom Stanton May 12, 2022 | 12:24 PM

The owner of TDK Lawncare called Police around 4:30 Thursday morning after receiving an alert that one of his trucks was leaving the parking lot of his business at 1342 High Street.

“That vehicle, a 2007 Ford F250, was equipped with GPS tracking capability,” says Captain Todd Kocian.  “He continued to provide police updates as to the vehicles location and officers eventually tracked the vehicle to the 3400 block of Orwell where a traffic stop was conducted.”

Kocian says 22-year-old Tariq Simien fled from the vehicle and ignored the officer’s commands to stop. A police K9 was called in and Simien was eventually found in a small storage shed in the 5700 block of South 32nd Street.  Inside the vehicle officers found a crowbar, face mask and sledgehammer that did not belong to the vehicle’s owner.

Simien was arrested for Theft by Unlawful Taking, Possession of Burglars Tools, Obstructing a Police Officer and Resisting arrest.
