With the market for projectors in India growing by leaps and bounds, the US-based ViewSonic is looking at carving out a larger slice of the pie.

Next month, the company will launch new connected, short-throw projectors that are Android-powered LED 4K models. These projectors will come with streaming apps like Netflix and will be sized so that they can be carried around. Currently, the company is third in the country behind the likes of Epson and BenQ in the projector space.

“These will directly compete with smart TVs,” Muneer Ahmad, India Business Head, ViewSonic told BusinessLine . This, despite smart TV costs coming down and their sales increasing.

“Beyond the 55-inch category, you will see a gradual increase in prices of smart TVs,” Ahmad said. On comparing the price of a 100-inch TV panel to a projector of equivalent screen size, there is a considerable difference, he further added. Apart from projectors, the company is evaluating partnerships with gaming events and competitions to promote their gaming monitors.

“This year, we will be consolidating our position and are hoping to grow around 30 per cent,” he said. The company is looking at growing its marketshare to 15 per cent from its current 8.3 per cent. ViewSonic is investing in setting up offices in India and in manpower for product demonstrations.

. “We will be doing case studies in institutes that have our installations to take their feedback,” said Ahmad.

Viewsonic also demonstrated its new IP50 range of interactive flat panel displays. Primarily targeted at institutions like schools and colleges, the range starts at ₹3.5 lakh for the 65-inch panel and goes up to ₹9 lakh for the 86-inch model. The company has collaborated with Intel for a dedicated ‘slot-in’ Windows PC that can connect to the panel and help it function on its own. The panel is also powered by Android and supports multiple input methods like casting, HDMI and USB.
