Yerevan -hosted WCIT is record-breaker in terms of participants

YEREVAN, October 7. /ARKA/. Some 6,200 people have registered to participate in the World Congress of Information Technologies (WCIT-2019), making the Yerevan-hosted event a record-breaker, President of the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises (UATE) Alexander Yesayan said at a press conference today.

He said well-known experts and guests from around the world, representatives of the leading world media have arrived in Armenia to cover the event. ' We are glad that Armenia has become these days the world center of the IT industry," Yesayan said.

According to him, the work on holding the event in Armenia started back in 2014. "The decentralization movement began in 2014. In the modern world, these ideas work in different directions. Previously, the congress was held in either large or developed countries. It was the idea of ​​decentralization that was important in deciding that the next congress  was to be held in Armenia," Yesayan noted.

As Yesayan noted, the Armenian side took advantage of the most important argument that the modern quality of the Internet allows holding events of a global level regardless of the venue.

In turn, Yvon Chu, President of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), noted that the scientific and technological potential of Armenia could make the country one of the global leaders in the IT sector.

According to her, holding the world congress in Yerevan is aimed precisely at unlocking the possibilities of Armenia.

WCIT is the world’s largest IT event, which this year is being held in Yerevan. IT  leaders, innovators, politicians, researchers, art figures and show business stars from 70 countries are in attendance. WCIT 2019, the World IT Congress, is being held in Yerevan on October 6-9. The forum is hosted by the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises under the auspices and support of the Government of the Republic of Armenia.

The World Congress on Information Technology was initiated in 1978 by the World Alliance of Information Technologies and Services. The conference is held every two years. -0-
