Another graduation is in the books for Maine South High School as the class of 2019 accepted their diplomas before a packed Rosemont Theatre Sunday evening.
This year’s graduating class numbered just over 670 students, with 107 of them identified as members of National Honor Society based on their accomplishments in academics, service, leadership and character.
An additional four students are scheduled to graduate this July, according to the school.
The welcoming address was given by Jennifer Beck, president of the senior class, and the commencement address was given by Anna Gerbich, a member of National Honor Society and Maine South’s track and field team.
Performances included Carina Milano singing the national anthem and Kaylee Hayden, Jonathon Lassa, Magdalena Pontikes and Carly Swanson performing Maine South’s Alma Mater.
Recognized during the graduation ceremony were Maine Scholars Thomas Brady, William Burgis, Lucy Campbell, George Dalianis, Margaret Edsey and Sara Nelson, who represent the top 1% of their senior class, and Goodwill Award winners Sophia Albano, Andre Caro, Michael Frazier, Sarah Gleason, Hala Halabi, Kai Jones, Saida Mehrdadi, Marina Pojani, and Ekaterini Vaselopulos.
Recipients of the 2019 Maine South Department Awards included Violet Kamienski, applied technology; Nicole Woroniecki, art; Natalia Kurowska, business education; Zechariah Pappageorge, English; Kinga Kochanowski, family and consumer science; Owen Mech, mathematics; Grace Dziedzic, music; Robert Inserra, physical education; Yvonne Walker, science; George Dalianis, social science; Jonathon Lassa, speech/drama/broadcasting; and Daniela Conforti, world languages.
