NEW EGYPT >> Here comes the New Egypt softball team.
In a year in which it got off to a 1-9 start, the long-time New Egypt powerhouse is now 8-10 after it smashed South Amboy, 18-0, Monday in a Central Jersey Group I opener.
It was largely the Chloe Lewis show as the Warrior pitcher struck out 10 in just four innings of work and also bashed two home runs. Lewis was 3-for-5 overall with six RBIs.
New Egypt will now play on Wednesday at top-seeded Henry Hudson in a rematch of the 2016 state semifinal.

BORDENTOWN TWP. >> The second-seeded Scotties cruised behind a big game from sophomore Bella Pisapia. In addition to firing a one-hitter and striking out 10, Pisapia collected two hits and three RBIs. Bordentown will host Metuchen in the next round.
