A Bhutanese delegation led by the economic affairs minister, will attend the 8th Session of General Assembly of the international Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) from January 13 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The General Assembly is IRENA’s supreme decision-making body. IRENA is an inter-governmental organisation that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future.

The Assembly will hold discussions on current trends in renewable energy policy and technology. “Bhutan’s participation in the meeting reaffirms the commitment towards the use of renewable energy and for the preservation of the natural environment,” a press release from the economic affairs ministry stated.

Bhutan is participating in the General Assembly for the second time since it became a member of IRENA in 2015.

The delegation will also attend the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and the World Future Energy Summit, also hosted by IRENA from January 15 to 18.
