Microsoft's Photosynth service is officially dead

Back in mid-2015, Microsoft discontinued its Photosynth mobile apps, along with MSN Food & Drink, Health & Fitness, and Travel. At the time, the company recommended uploading your photos to photosynth.net to preserve them, but in November, the firm said that even that was to shut down.

Well, today is the day that Photosynth is no more. If you haven't taken the time to grab your images since the announcement in November, you've lost your chance. Microsoft says that it will not be keeping a copy of them going forward, as the images are owned by the user, and the Photosynth service simply had a license to use them while it was running.

If you're not familiar with Photosynth, the app allowed users to take multiple images that would be stitched together as a 360-degree panoramic photo. The service allowed you to share these creations online, for others to see.

Of course, Microsoft also wants to thank the Photosynth community, who made it "a great way to explore the unique places and moments of the last nine years."
