In a first, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Amritsar, Citizens’ Town Hall arranged a series of interactions with the five main candidates fielded in the Amritsar parliamentary constituency where they were allowed to share their plans and were given suggestions on their priorities if elected to the Lok Sabha, a CII statement said.
Five events, one for each candidate, were organised with Kuldip Singh Dhaliwal of the Aam Adami Party, Anil Joshi of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Taranjit Singh Sandhu of the Bharatiya Janta Party, Gurjeet Singh Aujla of the Congress and Emaan Singh Mann of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar).
Representatives from industry, trade, NGOs, educationists and others from all walks of life and more than 19 associations participated in these Town Hall meets.
CII, Amritsar Zone, Chairman Naavniit Miterr said, “In the five events over the past ten days, CII hosted all the candidates for Election 2024 and presented to them a compiled wishlist Amritsar Vision@2030. We requested all to work together to unlock the full potential of Amritsar and to make it a hub for industry and innovation. The city has a bright future ahead, and it stands to reason that with the collective efforts of all of us, Amritsar will become a shining example of growth and development in the region.”
Presenting the Vision@2030 statement, Gunbir Singh, Founder Chairman of CII, Amritsar, and past chair for Punjab State, said, “We presented the aspirations of the people of the Holy City and sought their modes operandi in fulfilling these wishes. The purpose of these events has been to motivate the youth, women and people at large to step out and vote for their preferred candidates after hearing their thoughts and vision.”
CII, Amritsar Zone, Co-Chairman Davinder Singh said, “This effort to introduce the contenders to the citizens in a non-political environment has been lauded countrywide and has generated a positive need to exercise their franchise as a responsibility to the nation.”
