Obama pitches $3.4B renewable energy government support plan

October 27, 2009

Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — In keeping his campaign promise to work toward more renewable energy, President Obama pitched a new plan on Tuesday, as part of a $3.4 billion effort in government support for some 100 projects with a goal of modernizing America’s power grid.

Taking a walk around solar energy panel field in West-Central Florida, Obama encouraged increased use of greener technologies to make the nation’s power transmission system more efficient.

By taking advantage the digital age, Obama’s objectives include installing “smart” electric meters in the nation’s homes, making utility substations fully automated, and implementing thousands of new digital transformers and grid sensors.

“There’s something big happening in America in terms of creating a clean-energy economy,” Obama said, adding there is much more work to be done when it comes to green energy.

Obama said these changes would be the country’s ultimate modernization, leading to a “smarter, stronger and more secure electric grid.”
