Deadline for Arguments in Google Book Deal Extended

A judge has extended the deadline for arguments for or against a deal that would expand the digital library of Google.


Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A U.S. District Judge has extended the deadline for bringing forth arguments against or in support of a Google Inc. settlement that would expand its digital library. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the deadline has been extended until Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. due to maintenance on the court’s electronic filing system.


As noted by the AP, many oppose the settlement between Google and author representation groups and publishers in the U.S. because of its purported potential to give Google substantial control over digital book pricing. The concerns have reportedly led to an investigation by the U.S. Justice Department into possible pricing and competition law violations.


As further noted by the AP, there is also significant support of the deal, particularly from researchers and librarians.
