Imaging Technologies, Inc. Automated Color Registration System Enables Tribune Publishing Co. to Reduce Paper Waste by 279 Metric Tons per Year.

August 11, 2009

Missouri newspaper printer experiences 30% drop in total waste after installation of I-TECH automated color register system.

San Jose, Calif. (WiredPRNews) August 11, 2009 – imaging technologies, Inc. (I-TECH) today announced that Tribune Publishing Co., Columbia, MO. is reporting a 30%, or 279 metric ton, reduction in yearly print paper waste after installation of I-TECH’s Color Register System. The system, based on I-TECH’s proprietary, state-of-the-art machine vision control systems for industrial automation processes, gives printers an effective tool to provide higher quality output for their customers and improve efficiency while moving towards their goals of achieving “lean and green” manufacturing.

“The waste reduction is a direct result of having to pay less attention to register by virtue of the automated register System from Imaging Technologies, Inc.,” said Jack Waters, General Manager, Tribune Publishing Company. “The overall savings and improvements to the environmental foot print of our operations including the paper, inks, energy savings (machine run time) are significant. Crew time optimization is made possible as well.” The Tribune Publishing Company prints the New York Times, National Edition and the Columbia Daily Tribune among others. The printer invested on a 24-Camera register system from Imaging Technologies which is installed on a Goss International Corp. Universal 45 press.

“Due to declining newspaper profit margins, many printers are resorting to process automation as key and vital step in regaining profitability and to remain competitive,” states Paul Calinawan, CEO, Imaging Technologies, Inc. “279 metric tons equates to 615,195 pounds of paper material and could save more than 3000 trees. This is quite an astonishing number in terms of environmental impact.”

“Saving several hundred metric tons of paper and being environmentally friendly can only be a good thing. However, the quality of print color registration is also of concern to print buyers, press room operators or anybody else in between. I-TECH has designed the Automated Color Register system specifically to address this concern,” adds Calinawan. “Better, faster, smarter and lower price point is not just a cliché; it forms the very foundation of our company. We prove this by delivering products and services that are very high in value, backed by performance guarantees.”

Color Registration is the process of aligning the 4 colors or ink (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) used to print colored newspaper pages. Misalignment of any color results in low quality image, potential customer dissatisfaction and waste. The Tribune Publishing Company takes pride in being a high quality shop and print products that do not meet high quality criteria are directly dumped in the waste bin.
